Casa Candela is a flamenco dance studio run by Monica Batiste. In this short doc, we follow a group of women living with psychosis and other serious mental health issues. Casa Candela brings these women together through shared mental health struggles but also through a love of dancing. Flamenco is a traditional Spanish dance and artistically it is a way of seeing life. To the students of Casa Candela the flamenco dancing is much more than that and rather a therapeutic and rehabilitating experience “They are not witnesses to their therapy, they are their own therapy”. Throughout the film we see how much Casa Candela does for making these women happier, more connected to the world around them and included in society.
